The Bach Choir Stuttgart was founded in the Bach Year 2000 by Prof. Jörg-Hannes Hahn, Director of Church Music, who has been its artistic director ever since. He devotes himself to a broad repertoire with music by J.S. Bach, classical and new oratorio literature and sacred a cappella music for church services and concerts.
The press, cultural policy and the general public have for years regarded the Bach Choir Stuttgart as one of the most important pillars of excellent church music in Stuttgart. Such a development requires not only intensive artistic work but also substantial support from sponsors, as the Jörg Wolff Foundation has been doing for years. It is not least due to this ongoing commitment that the Bach Choir Stuttgart is able to enrich the musical life of the state capital, the Stuttgart region and far beyond in an exemplary manner.
Under the artistic direction of the church music director Prof. Jörg-Hannes Hahn, the Bachchor Stuttgart convinces with its stringently conceived concert programmes with a significant proportion of contemporary music and rarely heard works from earlier epochs.
Without generous supporters and sponsors, the performance of B. A. Zimmermann’s “Requiem for a young poet”, a project that attracted nationwide attention, would not have been possible. Just like the inclusive project with J. Haydn’s “Creation” in the Stuttgart Liederhalle. Also the series of composer portraits – unique in Germany’s church music landscape – in which Krzysztof Penderecki, Klaus Huber, Hans Zender, Adriana Hölzsky and many others had excellent performances, would not have been possible. Last but not least, there are a number of commissioned compositions, world premieres and the international series “Sommer! Organ!” series, which were promoted by the Jörg-Wolff Foundation, among others.
The Foundation’s ongoing commitment enables long-term cooperation with top-class soloists and outstanding orchestra musicians. For the audience, but also for the singers, the artistic quality achieved through this is one of the lasting impressions of the performances.
